California

At the end of October I’m taking a trip to California. It’s the first time I’ve been and I’ll be spending time in Los Angeles, Orange County, Las Vegas and San Francisco.

If you’ve been I’d LOVE to hear your recommendations. From hotels to hostels, restaurants to food trucks, galleries to off the beaten track activities I am desperate for your suggestions.

The only thing currently set in stone is my iPod playlist…

Hi – have you thought about taking books that evoke the locale? We have found it a fab way to get under the skin of a place and experience the location through the eyes of an author… maybe Wild, the Autobiography of Us, Unlucky 13, The Deception Artist or The Drive (depending on your genre preference). Have a lovely time!

Books are an essential part of any trip but I hadn’t yet thought of what to take. Thank you so much for the suggestions – I haven’t read any of them and I’ll add them to my packing list!

Hi Carla B!! What a fantastic itinerary – wow!! I’ve never been to Los Angeles, but I LOVE Cecconi’s Mayfair and Miami Beach… the restaurant also has a West Hollywood location that you may want to try for brunch one day: http://www.cecconiswesthollywood.com/
Also, Vegas is the best place in the world to see Cirque de Soleil:

The Beatles and Michael J shows look great. “Ka” and “O” are classics.
Vegas has awesome restaurants. You may want to try The Cheesecake Factory for their chocolate-raspberry cheesecake (my favourite!).
Finally, check out Wynn hotel just for the beautiful indoor greenhouse design. The flower arrangements are stunning!!
Have a great trip – looking forward to reading your blog entries about it!!
