Chicken Shop

I visited Chicken Shop last week with a couple of friends. A Soho House project in Kentish Town that is linked with Dirty Burger and Pizza East, it has that cool and trendy look with Cowshed products in the bathroom. Essentially they offer a rather glam take on KFC, McDonalds and Pizza Hut – but with far superior food.

You get a choice of chicken: whole, half or quarter.

A choice of sides: lettuce & avocado salad, crinkly chips, coleslaw and corn on the cob.

The drinks menu is limited too, with a few wines, a few beers (including Camden Pale Ale) and those fancy Victorian lemonades and ginger beers. It makes making a decision about what to eat after a long day at work remarkably simple and enjoyable!

Between 3 starving women we ordered half a chicken and one each of the sides. There was plenty of chicken with all the sides, but without them you probably need half a chicken between two. The food arrived quickly and the coleslaw was delicious (and I’m not really a fan).

Staff were pleasant, the lighting very dim and the wipes and toothpicks helpful. Corn on the cob and chicken wings aren’t exactly the perfect first date foods now, are they?

My only issue was the wait time. Obviously this is the latest in a series of no reservation restaurants, but when you arrive and are promised a table in under 30 mins you would hope to get your table in that time, especially with no bar to wander off to in order to kill time. An hour after we arrived we were seated, despite watching groups of 4 sit down first even though they arrived half an hour after us. This happened a few times and would definitely put me off returning.

One final note: if you are paranoid like me then don’t visit the toilets by yourself! They are styled like a Saw movie or Texas Chainsaw Massacre, with that American horror movie look. My friends think I’m ridiculous but if you have an overactive imagination enter at your peril…
